Biography

Violeta Smailovic-Huart’s  artistic expression has been applauded in important halls such as the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, St.John ’s Cathedral in New York, Nybroyarken Hall in Stockholm, Royal Theater in Brussels, Lisinski Hall in Zagreb, Rachmaninov Hall Moscow, Morton Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, etc..

Born in a family of renowned musicians, she began studying violin when only 3 years old in the class of D. Sagrestano, professor at the Music Academy in Sarajevo. At 5 years old, she gave her first live performance on television. At age 11, with great success, she plays as a soloist with the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra. At age 18, she’s got her Bachelors Diploma at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad (former Yugoslavia) and went on to theat the Conservatoire National de la Musique de Paris (Cycle de Perfectionnement),  Academia di Concertisti  Portogruaro (Diploma di Concertista) and Meadows School of Music -Southern Methodist University in Dallas (Artist Certificate and Master’s Degree) . Unlike many “child prodigies” that fade away with time, she has acquired a growing maturity by combining her own personality with the best of what her teachers offered: E. Tchugaeva, P. Vernikov, A. Moglia, T. Smirnova, I. Grubert, E. Schmieder and E. Borok. She also participated in Master Classes A. Rosand, V. Tretyakov,  Garlitsky, and S. Kravchenko.

Elected “Best Young Musician of Yugoslavia” , she is also a laureate of the Sir Yehudi Menuhin Foundation  “Live Music Now” (Paris) and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (Japan). With pianist Sergio De Simone she won several prices at  international competitions of  Chamber Music .
This great violinist has performed in recitals, concerts of chamber music and as a soloist (Concertgebow Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Poland, Orchestra of the Paris Conservatoire, Orchestra of RTV Sarajevo, Skopje Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of JNA Belgrade, the Avignon Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra di Giovani Musicisti has Portogruaro Orchestra “Tartini” Ljubljana) in Austria, England, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Russia, Romania, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, the Netherlands , USA and Japan.

Excellent interpreter of contemporary music, she often performs virtuoso violin pieces such as Berio’s Sequenza No.8 (CD SONEMUS recorded for Radio Zurich), Sciarrino’s 6 caprices, Xenakis’ Mikka etc.. She also recorded for Fnac a piece by David Wilde, “Cry Bosnia Now” which was dedicated to her. In 2005 Violeta Smailovic-Huart made her first viola performance in the Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, playing in the same work as the violin part.

Deeply concerned to pass on her expertise to young violinists, Violeta Smailovic-Huart attracts a large number of international students. Professor of violin at both,the Universities of Split and Sarajevo, she has integrated the modernization of communication in music education by providing lessons to her students over the Internet with remarkable results. She regularly gives Master Classes with full attendance in Italy, Slovenia, France and Croatia.

Violeta Smailovic-Huart plays on a violin created by the famous Italian violin maker Enrico Rocca. She speaks fluent English, Italian, French, Russian, Slovenian, and Bosnian. Since 2007 she has been the violin solo of the Instrumental Ensemble of Nice, the town where she resides.
